Prayer Request

I'm linking up with Kelly's Korner today and I'm so excited to share Justin's story. Thanks for stopping by and for praying for my brother in law. It really means a lot.

On December 21, 2010, I had a seizure at 3:24am. After the hospital’s MRI, a tumor was found on the left temporal side of my brain. I had the brain tumor removed on February 23, 2011 and was diagnosed with  Anaplastic Astrocytoma brain cancer.
On March 28, 2011, I started radiation and chemotherapy pills for a 6 week course. At the end of this treatment, the tumor had not shrunk but no new growth was visualized.
In the beginning of May 2011, I continued my pill chemotherapy once a month for five days.  After four cycles of chemotherapy my tumor started to show signs of regrowth and at this time my treatment plan was changed to intravenous chemotherapy twice a month to include two medications: carboplast and avastin. I received an MRI four weeks after the start of IV chemotherapy which was reassuring. The result was that the tumor had stopped growing and the following month showed signs of shrinkage.
I continue to get MRI’s every other month and receive chemotherapy intravenously twice a month. This treatment plan will continue until November 2012 and at that point I can stop chemotherapy and continue getting MRI’s every other month for one year.
At the time my tumor started to regrow, our family was very scared at what the future may hold. My Neuro/Oncologist, Dr. Spier and Karen, RN at Kaiser have been the rocks that hold Brooke and I together every month we meet. I will never forget when Dr. Spier stated,” The ones who will respond the best respond the fastest”.  The intravenous chemotherapy proved to be an success and my tumor has continued to be stable with no growth.
Over the course of the year, Brooke, the Boys and I have made many changes in our lives. Brooke switch my diet to inlcude, healthy shakes with protein, kale and tumeric.  We returned to church and prayer to help us in our journey to recovery and we continue to strive to keep family days alive.
However, this past year has been difficult. I am very tired and have not returned to work. I continue to manage and coach soccer and I am currently managing Grayson’s Shetland Team and Coaching Garin’s Pinto Team. This summer was definetly different in the Sturgeon house. We did several small trips to Palm Springs, Camping at South Carslbad and Camping at Santee Lakes with the Jordon’s.
I would like to thank all my family and friends for the love and support that they have given to me over the last year. I want you all to know that I could not have done it without Brooke pushing me to be positive, the boys keeping me young, my family always helping at my side and my fans. I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
God Bless!

Dear Dada,

Dear Dada,
Happy First Father's Day Daddy! You're so good to me everyday. During mealtime, playtime, especially bath time, bedtime, and even diaper time. Every time's more fun because of YOU! That's why you're the best Dada in the world. That's why I love you so much!

                                                                                                   Te amo mucho Papa,

                                                                                                                   Ella Catherine

And PS, Mommy loves you too!

Happy Birthday Dad!

This week Jose, Ella, and I celebrated Jose's 35th Birthday! Birthdays have always been a HUGE deal in my family. I always looked forward to my birthday song in the morning(thanks Mom!), followed by a full day of celebrations with my family. So, as you can imagine, I have always made birthdays for Jose very special too! It was especially special this year because Ella was there to celebrate Daddies day. And boy was she excited! When Jose returned home from work, we celebrated with one of his favorite meals, some delicious cookies made by Ella and Mama, and presents!

Ella was super excited to open presents with her Dada. She couldn't wait to get her hands on the tissue paper. She LOVES paper, so the bag, card and tissue paper were all she needed to have a good time.

Can I have your card Dad?

Let me help you with your presents!

Ohhhh.... tissue paper. Yes please!

I originally asked my Mom if she could watch Ella so we could have a date night on Saturday. Of course my Mom was eager to spend time with her angel, but Jose had other plans. He wanted to celebrate together, all three of us! I just love that about him. His family is so special to him and he wants nothing more than to spend time together. I think we're pretty darn lucky!

Jose loves seafood, so we decided to go to the Brig around 2:00 for a late lunch. It was perfect! The restaurant was dead and we had the beautiful patio all to ourselves. We enjoyed some yummy tacos and Ella was an angel the entire time. It was the perfect afternoon.

Me and my sweet girl

The perfect combination. Tacos and cocktails. Yum!

That about sums up Jose's special day. It was perfect in every way.

Happy Birthday love. We love you more than you know!

11 Months

Ella Catherine is 11 Months Old!

I can't believe the next time I'll place a sticker on Ella's cute little onesie she'll be ONE! This month has been very adventurous. Our "little" girl is growing up way too fast and continues to grow and learn each day. I know I say this a lot, but it's pretty remarkable. I am in awe of her development and have loved watching her discover new things. This has been a month of firsts, and we couldn't be more thrilled for our girl.

I don't feel like I can say Ella is a walker, but she is definitely walking! She took her first steps May 26th, then on June 2nd she took several (about 6). Now, she is completely walking on her own. It's too cute for words. Every day she is getting stronger and stronger and is willing to take more risks.

Ella is so curious now that she is completely mobile. She loves climbing up and into anything. The dining room table, our bar stools, and any open cupboard she can sneak her way into seems to be her favorite. It's amazing how much she can now get in to. There's definitely no downtime with this speedy girl!

We've been in the pool a lot this month. My Mom has a beautiful pool so we get to go all the time! She went in the pool for the first time on Mother's Day with no fear at all. She couldn't wait to get in. Since then, she's  swam with her best buddy Donovan, and we also purchased a pool for our patio for days we can't go to my Moms. I'm so glad she loves the water. Just like her Mama!

Jose and I realized this month that we may already have a problem on our hands! This girl loves her paci and juicy. If she doesn't have one or the other in her hand, it's a shock. I usually just mix a small amount Motts for Tots Fruit Punch or Apple Juice with mostly water. I'm so glad she loves to drink and she stays super hydrated all day. I just hope it doesn't become to much of an attachment item. I think it may be already.

Ella still loves bath time with her Dada. She is so happy and loves splashing around. She still gets her bath around 7:00 each night and is down for bed by 7:30. She's a sleeping champ and sleeps until about 6:30. I'm so glad she's sleeping in a little later. Even if it is only 45 minutes. It makes Mama really happy! Her naps are still pretty consistent. One morning nap around 9:30 and an afternoon nap around 2:30. Both are about 1.5 hours. Sometimes she won't settle down for her afternoon nap and just plays in her crib for about 45 min. At least it's some quiet time. For her and for her Mama.

Afternoon walks are still a favorite for us. She loves her stroller and enjoys looking around at all the sights.

Ella continues to be a wonderful eater. She loves fruit, especially berries. Her favorites this month include yogurt, meatballs, mac and cheese, and Ritz crackers. I'm still waiting to try peanut butter and eggs, but other than that this girl eats anything! We're so lucky.

Ella participated in her first Bay Bridge walk. We went with our good friends Juan and Nicole. We had a blast and Ella was a champ! It was super crowded, but we made it! Such a fun event, and so beautiful. Not many people can say they walked across the Coronado Bridge. Now we can!

Ella had a bit of a hectic month with childcare this month. Cori's son Peyton had a horrible bike accident and was in the ICU for 3 weeks! This meant no Cori on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She sure did miss Cori and the boys. Peyton is her favorite buddy and she was so excited when we went to Children's Hospital for a visit. This picture just melts my heart. They're all so close. We're so lucky to have them in our lives.

Well, I thinks that's it. We had a very busy month. I'm looking forward to a much calmer June. Schools out and I get to spend EVERY DAY with my sweet girl. I can't wait!

This month was a JOKE trying to get a picture. We tried twice, once with just Ella and I, then a few days later I called in Jose for some help. Thought having Daddy in the room would do the trick. Well.... let's just say that wasn't much of a success either. Her photos are pretty comical, but it really shows how active our little miss is. Not only will Ella not stay still, but she won't keep any bow or headband in her hair! It's killing me. Here are a few shots of our fabulous photo session!

This is her new "Mean Face"!

Look over here Ella!

Ohhhhh, I have a sticker on . .. . . . .

and a bow in my hair?

Ok Mom and Dad, this is as good as it gets!

We love you more than you know Ella Catherine.

Until next month . . . . . .
